Back to Stories of Changed Lives
Food, Shelter, Safety
“When you’re hungry, you’ll eat anything,” Robert admits, giving a glimpse of just how harrowing life on the streets can be. Every day is a battle just to survive.
Up until four years ago, Robert’s life was pretty normal. He served in the Army then worked for a tire manufacturer for 20 years. He left to work for United Engine, where he stayed for eight years. But when he lost his job, everything turned upside down.
Robert scoured the city for work, but couldn’t find a job. He lived off his savings, but when his bank account ran dry, he was evicted from his apartment.
For two years, Robert lived on the streets. He slept under bridges and underpasses. When he had to, he foraged in dumpsters for food.
Finally, he came to City Rescue Mission, where he found food, shelter and safety.
