There is Compassion Here

How could a few traffic tickets undo everything they’d worked for?  For three years, Steve and Claudia Meeks had stretched Steve’s construction paychecks to feed and shelter their family of four while Claudia attended Metro Tech.  Suddenly, Steve was in jail on outstanding warrants, their electricity had been turned off and a neighbor had notified their Section 8 landlord of their troubles.  An eviction letter came soon after.

Thank God for City Rescue Mission.

“We’d stayed here in 2002,” Claudia notes.  “So I said, We need to get to City Rescue Mission.  Let’s go back and start all over again.”

Today, Claudia and Steve are residents on CRM’s Rescue & Restoration Program.  While Steve continues to work day labor jobs hoping to be hired onto another construction crew, Claudia attends classes in nutrition, budgeting and other life skills, along with work and leisure skill courses.  Steve joins her for chapel and family counseling session.

Though Claudia misses attending Hope Community Church, the family’s church, she appreciates the love they’ve found at City Rescue Mission.  “They represent Christ to the homeless,” she says.  “There is a sense of compassion here.  We’ll stay until we can provide for our family and make things work.  We feel at home her.”
