Committed Individual Volunteer Program

Our Program is designed for individuals who are interested in learning more about homelessness and desire to volunteer on a regular basis.  Volunteer opportunities are available to match your area of interest.

Information about volunteer opportunities is listed below.

Please note:  Currently, we are looking for individuals who are able to make a three-month commitment to volunteering.  At this time, the only weekend volunteer opportunities available are in the kitchen.  Volunteers must be 18 years or older.

 

Committed Individual Volunteer Opportunities


Kitchen Opportunities—Breakfast, lunch and dinner opportunities available.

Cook: Prepares dishes served to Mission guests and residents. Assists the head cook, contributes recipe ideas and maintains a clean working area.

Line Server: Works on the front line serving food to the underprivileged of Oklahoma City.  Helps set up food to be served and cleans work area after meal is finished.

Sanitation Worker: Keeps the floors, surfaces and appliances in the kitchen clean.  Unloads deliveries and restocks storage areas.

Dishwasher: Receives dirty trays, rinses them off and runs them through the dish machine.

Dining Attendant: Sets up tables and chairs in the dining room, wipes down tables and chairs, and maintains a clean dining area.


Pediatric Opportunities

Children’s Mentor: A mentor’s goal is to empower children to make positive life choices that enable them to reach their potential by serving as a positive role model and friend, building relationships by participating in planned activities, encouraging self-value and motivation, helping to set goals and working towards accomplishing them.  One-year commitment required (school year).  Planned activities are scheduled every second and fourth Saturday of the month. Children’s Reading Group/Library Volunteer: Encourages a love of reading in children by reading stories, organizing the library and checking out materials.

Children’s Chapel Assistant: Chapel is every Tuesday and Thursday evening from 7-8 p.m.  Volunteers are in charge of helping plan lessons and activities and mentoring the children.  This is a great opportunity for a volunteer group that can commit to helping on a weekly/bi-weekly/monthly basis.

After school Tutor: Volunteers help kids get excited about learning and education by assisting with homework, educational games and reading time.  Seasonal position; 3:30–5:30 p.m. Monday- Friday.

 

Women’s Dorm Opportunities

Women’s Mentor: Develops relationships with women in the dorm by holding a Bible study, hosting a craft project, etc.  Listens to the women talk about their problems and becomes an advocate for the women and the Mission.  Morning, afternoon, and evening shifts available.

 

Administrative Opportunities

Administrative Office Volunteer: Enjoys working behind the scenes to ensure the success of City Rescue Mission.  Prepares receipt letters to donors, answers phones, sorts mail. Lunch and afternoon shifts available.

Development Office Volunteer: Assists in receiving in-kind and cash gifts from donors, prepares mail for donors, assists in the Mission’s event productions and more.  Between the hours of 1–5 p.m.

 

Maintenance Opportunities

General Maintenance Volunteer Supervisor: This position is for a true handy man! Assist with HVAC to vehicle maintenance.  Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

Window Washer: Works behind the scenes to keep the windows at the Mission looking nice for visitors and residents.  Must be able to operate an upright lift to reach tall windows.  Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

Adopt-a-Block Grounds Pick Up: Pick up trash around a two-block radius of the Mission.  This volunteer opportunity is perfect for a group that feels comfortable walking around downtown Oklahoma City.  Open weekdays 8 a.m.–4 p.m.

Vehicle Maintenance Volunteer: Requires general knowledge of vehicle maintenance and repair.  Checks and maintains fluids, performs basic tune-ups, and helps repair maintenance issues. Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

Housekeeping Volunteer: An important position for volunteers who are not afraid to get their hands dirty!  Maintains floors, cleans and stocks bathrooms, empties trash, and other general housekeeping duties.  Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

Electrician Volunteer: Installs low-voltage supply for doors, alarms, cameras, etc. Replaces faulty receptacles and switches, and handles various other wiring jobs.  License not required, but preferred. Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

Plumber Volunteer: Assists in repairing plumbing problems, replaces faulty fixtures, and assists in special projects. License not required, but preferred.  Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

Volunteer Painter: Prepares areas to be painted, paints using brushes and rollers, and follows through with clean up procedures.  Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

Lawn and Landscape Volunteer: Keeps the facility mowed, edged and trimmed. Maintains flower beds, prunes shrubs and trees, services lawn equipment, and handles other various landscaping duties. Open weekdays 8 a.m.–2 p.m.

 

Dental Clinic Opportunities

Dentists and Hygienists: Hours are flexible and we will work with your schedule.  Slots are available mornings, afternoons, and evenings.  We ask you to make a weekly, bi-weekly or monthly commitment.
